I’m in love. Seriously, in love with this combination of flavors. I ran across a pairing of strawberries and basil the other day and did a double take. I’ve used them together before, in salads and a dressing, but never on their own like this.
This is pure summertime heaven. I can promise you now that I will be snacking on this combination over any other options in the near future. Perfectly light and sweet enough that I call it dessert. Just a berry or two lightly dipped in this basil sugar completely satisfies my sweet tooth (and that is no small feat!).
I made ¼ cup of this sugar mixture and the amount I’ve used is barely noticeable. A tiny bit of the basil sugar adds so much flavor.
You really won’t find yourself using much of it. I can hardly wait to play with this combination further! The basil sugar should keep in the refrigerator for at least a week.
* For what it’s worth, my husband is not a fan flavor combination. I am completely okay with that. It simply means more for me!
Sweet Basil Sugar with Strawberries
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 10 sweet basil leaves very finely minced
- Strawberries for dipping
Instructions
- Pour the sugar into a small jar and add the basil. Stir well to combine. You can use this immediately, or let it rest in the refrigerator overnight. The basil did infuse more of the sugar after resting 24 hours, but it wasn't a huge difference. Dip the strawberries into the sugar and Enjoy!

I'm sooo doing this! I made some basil salt the other day to put on sweet potato fries (delightful, btw). Thanks for all your great inspiration.
