While we were in Canada, we spent a day at Montreal’s Botanical Garden. We lingered for hours, wandering through the different gardens.
The Japanese Garden, the First Nations Garden, the Chinese Garden, the Garden of Innovations, and the Shade Garden were some of our favorites.
We saw bonsai trees in the Japanese Garden that were hundreds of years old. I can only imagine the care that has been taken to help them flourish!
When Sean and I were dating, he gave me a tiny little bonsai tree. (Have I mentioned before just how black my thumb is?)
Despite the best of our efforts, we couldn’t save that cute little tree from its inevitable death. It’s laughable now, the amount of time that we spent in a sad attempt to keep that tree alive.
It was amazing to see so many varieties of bonsai on display in the garden!
Walking through the gardens was almost indescribably peaceful. There were quite a few people running and power walking through the garden; I’m now dreaming of living near a garden like this.
I sigh just to imagine being able to exercise in such a spectacular place every day. An annual membership to the garden would cost far less than my gym membership and to walk or run through these paths every day would be an amazing experience.
From entrance to exit, there is so much to see in Montreal’s Botanical Garden. I would love to go back someday!

Thank you for posting such beautiful pics – I've never been to Canada – my parents have several friends that live there – took a trip and visited some a few years ago – met them in FL [hour NW of Orlando] along with other snowbirds from various northern states.

Lovely pictures, a bit of nostalgia. As I was brought up in Montreal. I now live on beautiful Saltspring Island,BC. I don't think you would want to run in the botanical gardens in the middle of winter, perhaps in the inside areas but not outside it can get downright frosty and very snowey .

Excellent point, Judith! I can't even IMAGINE all the snow. I guess I'll just have to snowbird to Montreal in the summer and run away again when it gets too cold for this desert girl!

Well if you ever want to spend more time in Canada you should visit us here on Saltspring Isl. We have the best weather in Canada. We have an abundance of organic farms with every produce available. We have a Farmer's market every Tuesday from June through October and a food and craft market (very famous, I might add) every Saturday from about May through Oct. We have many artists and celebreties that make their home on the island. You really should come some summer.

We made a day trip to visit these gardens right before moving away from Ottawa, so beautiful and amazingly maintained! Those bonsai trees were so special – made me want one to pass on through the generations in my family 🙂
