Perfectly gooey and chewy rice crispy treats are a classic that very few people can resist. These rice crispy treats? They are perfection.

When FLIPZ® Milk Chocolate Covered Pretzels asked me to come up with a fun treat to celebrate the end of summer, I knew immediately what I would be making. One of my favorite things about making rice crispy treats is that they come together in almost no time.

From start to finish, you’re never more than 15 minutes away from enjoying a great snack or dessert.

From school work to play time, and everything in between, my family spends a lot of time in the kitchen. As much as I love to bake a cake or make cookies with the kids, in the summertime, good old fashioned rice crispy treats tend to take the stage.

My youngest son is still a ways off from cooking on his own; however, with only a little bit of help from me, Nate made these Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rice Crispy Treats in just a few minutes. (If you hang out with me on Snapchat or Instagram, you had a fun sneak peek at this recipe while watching us make them last week.)

I have a well known weakness for rice crispy treats, but definitely not just any rice crispy treat. If it’s too hard and it scratches the roof of your mouth, that’s just wrong. Too soft and falling apart in your hands from too many marshmallows? That is not fun either.

The ultimate rice crispy treat needs to be just firm and sticky enough to hold together, yet soft and chewy and absolutely loaded with marshmallows.

If I’m indulging in a rice crispy treat, it had better be worth the indulgence. These Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rice Crispy Treats are loaded with just enough extra marshmallows to keep them super chewy without turning them sticky. The chocolate covered pretzels add a salty sweet flavor that everyone loves and they definitely make our favorite treat even more fun.

When I saw the FLIPZ®  Birthday Cake flavored pretzels in the store, I couldn’t resist choosing them to place on top of the treats. They are without question, the cutest pretzels I’ve ever seen!

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rice Crispy Treats

Servings: 16 servings

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 14 ounces miniature marshmallows about 11 cups, divided
  • 6 cups crisp rice cereal
  • 1 cup FLIPZ® milk chocolate white fudge, or birthday cake covered pretzels

Instructions

  • Line a 9x13 pan or a large baking sheet with parchment and set aside. (Feel free to use foil, if you’d prefer, just don’t forget to grease the foil very well with butter to prevent sticking!) Melt 6 tablespoons butter in a large pot, over medium heat. Add 8 cups marshmallows and stir until they begin to melt and stick together.
  • Remove from the heat, add 6 cups cereal, stir until well combined. Stir in the remaining 2-3 cups marshmallows and about ½ cup of FLIPZ pretzels. Scoop the sticky cereal mixture onto the lined pan. Use a lightly buttered spatula or spoon to gently press the mixture across the pan, being careful not to press too firmly. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Store in an airtight container for several days. Enjoy!

Notes

Don’t stress it when the chocolate covered pretzels partially melt and begin to break apart when stirred into the warm cereal mixture. This is supposed to happen.
