Heads up, my friends, today’s blog post is a little more photo-heavy than usual. I spent a long weekend in NYC a couple months ago, along with two amazing friends.
(Scroll to the bottom of the post for a peek into our trip!) We did our best to eat our way through the city and we celebrated our last night there with dinner at Blue Hill New York. Seventeen courses (no joke), these were some of the best bites of my life, and I’m not exaggerating here.
About halfway through our meal at Blue Hill, we were served a tray with warm rye bread and a little circlet of butter that was completely covered in seeds and spices.
One bite of the bread with a smear of that Everything Bagel Butter was all it took to convert me to an “everything butter” addict. I knew I’d be recreating that butter just as soon as I got back home.
It’s almost unbelievably simple. Just stir together all the seeds and spices you love from an everything bagel. I did skip the caraway in this recipe though, because it simply overwhelmed all the other flavors the first time I made the butter! Once you have the seasoning blend, press the spices into a slightly soft stick of butter.
Everything Bagel Butter has been a staple in my refrigerator for about a month now and I have to tell you it’s amazing on potatoes, vegetables, toast, dinner rolls, bagels, just about anything you might put plain butter on will be even better with Everything Butter!
Side note: My kids were so excited about this butter, I had a lot of help with the photos. They have their own (very old) camera now and they can’t get enough of taking photos with me these days.
It’s so much fun to see them figuring things out and beaming with pride over the finished photos. I figure 42,173 blurry ones for a single great shot is a pretty nice average and it beats the heck out of my learning curve as a kid with about a thousand rolls of 35mm film paid for with every penny of babysitting money I earned!
Everything Bagel Butter Recipe
-
Allow the butter to soften slightly at room temperature. The butter should be barely softened, but not at all warm.
-
Place the poppy seeds, sesame seeds, garlic, and onion in a flat bottom dish.
-
Gently roll the butter through the spice mixture to coat completely.
-
Place on a serving tray or in a butter dish. Serve with the breads of your choice.
For ease of serving, or personal preference, you can also blend the spices with the soft butter. I’ve made the butter both ways and don’t have a preference. Both methods work well.

Notes
Girls Weekend in NYC
This was my first trip to New York and it was perfect from start to finish. I met my friends, Meseidy and Rebecca, for a long weekend and Meseidy planned it all beautifully!
For more info on the specifics, check out Meseidy’s blog posts for Planning A Trip To NYC and Cheap Eats in NYC (ha, Blue Hill is NOT on that list!).
My life is a better place because of these two women. They are often the reason why I’m snorting in laughter while reading a text or remembering a late night dance fest.
I’m thankful for all of the things that blogging has brought to my life, but most of all, I thank God for the friendships.
My wish for all of you today is that you’ll pick up the phone and send a text, an email, or even make a phone call to someone you love.
You’ll bless someone’s day simply by thanking them for being in your life.
I want to thank each and every one of you for being part of my life. I love hearing from you when you leave comments, write me a note, or make the recipes.
Without you, this blog wouldn’t be nearly as much fun to write!
