Sizzling Summer Retreat - Scottsdale, AZ

Read all the way to the end, my friends, because my fun weekend means fun gifts for you too! This blog would not be anywhere near as much fun for me, if you all weren't here. So, thank you for reading the recipes and thank you for being here with me every single day. This post is just my little way of telling you that you make my life better for being here! ~ GIVEAWAY CLOSED ~

Sunshine, fantastic food, spa days, and time spent with friends is a perfect combination for a getaway weekend! The lovely FireSky Resort in Scottsdale hosted TSRI's Sizzling Summer Retreat and it was fabulous. Chad and Donna from The Slow Roasted Italian coordinated everything and they did an amazing job with it all; from a beautiful location, to fabulous food around the clock, to a wine tasting and food pairing, spa visits, and time at the pool. We talked and ate and laughed and then ate some more; the whole weekend was wonderfully relaxing.

It was fantastic to meet so many talented bloggers in person: Christie from Love from the Oven, Anetta from The Wanderlust Kitchen, Ashlee from Ashlee Marie, Kristen from Six Sisters Stuff, Erica from Favorite Family Recipes, Tessa from Handle the Heat, Alejandra from Always Order Dessert, Sara from Mom Endeavors, and Katerina from Diethood. They were each and every one just as wonderful in person as they are on their blogs.

FireSky Resort & Spa hosted us for the weekend. The rooms were lovely, the property is breathtakingly beautiful and I can't recommend their service highly enough. I spent each morning (because I'm a ridiculously early waker these days!) wandering their lovely grounds and then reading by the pool with my coffee. My massage at the amazing on-site Jurlique Spa was one of the best massages I've ever received.

Entwine joined us on Friday for delicious wine tasting and food pairings. Want to know what my favorite thing about Entwine is? They give a list of food pairings on the back of each bottle. Check out the back of their wine bottles and you'll see for yourself!  Seriously, did you know that there is a perfect wine to pair with chips and guacamole?

Transportation for the weekend was provided by Uber, and let me tell you, I could get used to that! If you've never heard of them, I highly recommend checking them out next time you need a lift for yourself or a group of people. Their phone app is amazing, just a couple clicks and a very nice ride will be at the door in just a few minutes. I may never take a cab again when traveling!

Friday night we had dinner at Rusconi's American Kitchen where Chef Michael Rusconi wowed us with five courses that had us grinning from start to finish. That decadent chocolate dessert (in the bottom right corner of the above picture) has a Brownie Brittle crust and it was wonderful! Every single bite of our meal was pure awesomeness and I left the restaurant so very happy that I live nearby. I already have plans to return to Rusconi's next weekend. I had no idea that such a wonderful gem of a restaurant was in my area!

FireSky's on-site Italian restaurant Taggia provided our breakfast, lunch, and dinner courtesy of the talented Chef Massimo De Francesca. All of the wonderful food was followed by the most amazingly mind-blowing chocolate covered tiramisu I've ever eaten. If you're anywhere in the valley, you really need to experience it!

Last, but not at all least, we each received the most fun-filled goodie bag I've ever been given! A super cute palm green spatula from Le Creuset, a nesting beaker style set of measuring cups from OXO, a powdered sugar dusting wand from OXO (why didn't I think of that?!), silicone cutting boards from Casabella (I've used these several times already and I LOVE them!), a brilliant microplane / Better Zester from kitchenIQ (it catches the zest in an attached tray with measuring lines marked on it!), Food Network magazine subscriptions from Entwine, brownies from Fairytale Brownies, Brownie Brittle from Brownie Brittle, and cookies from The Baked Equation!

Leave a comment below and tell me which of these items might make YOUR summer better! The items pictured above have already found their new home in my kitchen, but I'll be choosing 5 LUCKY WINNERS next week and sending you a fun prize of your own! ~ GIVEAWAY CLOSED ~ (Congratulations to Debbie, Liz, Kristen, Deb, and Karen! Enjoy your new kitchen tools!)

  1. The powdered sugar dusting wand! How fun!

  2. I would use all of the above, but mostly the measuring cups. When I spend all day long in my kitchen creating new recipes, you spend most of your time washing up your utensils just so that you can continue on.
