Strawberry Spinach Smoothie - Deliciously Ugly recipe by Barefeet In The Kitchen

This has been one of our favorite quick and easy smoothies for years. I hadn’t posted it yet, simply because it is so incredibly ugly. Who knew that spinach + strawberries = BROWN?

Luckily, my boys think that a brownish green drink is awesome. The orange juice and strawberries is all you can taste. Give it a try, this is one truly delicious drink.

Because I am doing a juice cleanse and I just happen to have all of these ingredients, I will make your deliciously ugly smoothie. I'm actually excited! Keely =)

Donna, I'm still impressed that you were willing to try it! It really is delish. I'll have to throw together a truly green one for you next time you're here.

I can't think of anything complimentary to say about the looks of this smoothie 😉 but I'm sure it's delicious. That's so funny about your boys liking the idea of a yucky brown drink…I don't think that would have worked on my girls…

Sue, you made me burst out laughing. As I just finished looking at the gorgeous photos you posted today, there is truly no comparison. I'm pretty sure they like the grossest looking foods because they are boys. Apparently, the alien something looks, the more exciting it is.

That color is terrible. I'm sure boys would just adore it! (I let Ryan color our cake frosting once, and it came out puke green. The boys thought it was "way cool". Boys. Hmph.) I do love the combination of strawberries and bananas, so it should be great!

Hi Mary, Happy New Year to your and your family. My Quay Lo have made this smoothies for me before. I was not very keen to drink it when I see the color but then after I tried it, I like it. No wonder people say we cannot judge the book for the cover. hehe

I can't wait to sneak this one by my daughter. I love that it has spinach in it. Maybe is she saw the cocoa powder out, next to the blender, it could pretend to explain the color. Will try this!

Okay, true to my word I made this smoothie and it was ugly but oh so good! In fact, between my husband, my kids and myself I have made this 4 times in the last 2 days. My 6-year old informed me that I needed to make it every morning because it's so healthy and so yummy. =)

      Stefanie,

I don't make smoothies in advance. I do have a friend that likes to make a pitcher and keep it in the fridge for a day or two, but I much prefer them freshly made. You could simply reduce the recipe and make it this way for yourself:

      1/2 – 3/4 cup orange juice
1 small handful baby spinach leaves, approximately 1 cups
      3/4 cups frozen strawberries
1/2 large banana or 1 small one

      Good luck!
      Mary

I just made this smoothie; it was my first time using spinach in one. I was impressed! It's absolutely delicious! I'm so glad I found this recipe. 🙂5 stars

A friend told me about this recipe so I looked it up and repinned. I made it last night and was pleasantly surprised! Thank you for sharing. This morning I made my usual pumpkin smootie (also found on Pinterest) and added spinach – and again, pleasantly surprised! It didn't alter the tasten only the color. 🙂5 stars
